Le Lunetier St-Jérôme is looking for a prescription optician to join its dynamic team!

The role of dispensing optician is to meet the client's ocular-visual needs through ophthalmic and/or corneal lenses. In close collaboration with the optometrist, this person ensures the adjustment of ametropias, the cutting in the laboratory as well as the first step in resolving an eye problem with a client. Depending on the foot traffic, he/she may be required to help with making appointments, opening client files and answering the phone.

Main Tasks

Customer Service:

  • Assess the customer's needs (frames, ophthalmic or contact lenses)
  • Explain the different products on the market according to the customer's needs
  • Explain the different promotions in order to guide the customer in their decision-making process
  • Support the stylist-advisor after choosing a frame (if necessary)
  • Take the necessary measurements to manufacture the complete glasses
  • Analyze the prescription: base curvature, vertex distance, pantoscopic angle and curve
  • Perform minor and major repairs on glasses
  • Problem solving, either in terms of comfort or the customer's vision level
  • Execute cutting-mounting
  • Make customer adjustments
  • Ensure the opening of files or renewals of contact lenses: select the ideal lens according to the client's needs, explain the manipulations during the first time, update the client's techniques, if necessary, refresh the maintenance methods, take measurements, carry out follow-ups, problem solving either at the comfort level or at the vision level

Other Tasks to Assist the Manager:

  • Place orders for contact lenses
  • Make an inventory of trial contact lenses
  • Track orders at the laboratory
  • Place each customer's lens order, ensure that the order form (the R) is accurate before placing the order
  • Make credits for lenses, frames and contact lenses and track them
  • Receive each frame order
  • Make sure to correctly enter each invoice number received (in the R) from each customer
  • Label all frames following the pricing rule

Administration:

  • Enter or update the client's contact information in the computer system
  • Make appointments for optometrists and opticians
  • Answer the phone, screen calls
  • Take messages and forward them to the contact person
  • Provide basic information on the services offered, either by telephone or to those who come to the clinic
  • Make appointments for deliveries of orders that are ready
  • Ensure that customer calls are made, within the appropriate time frame, when their glasses are ready
  • Make the various payments: examination, form, deposit or full payment of orders for glasses, contact lenses and various products
  • Close the cash register at the end of the day: record the money in the cash register for deposit purposes, pay the optometrists if applicable and fill out the sheet provided for this purpose. The employer will use it for the weekly and monthly accounting of optometrists' fees.

  • Help with pre-tests for eye exams (as needed)
  • Take charge of collecting frames to be donated to Groupe Lion and Optométristes sans frontières
  • Refill missing frames on the displays
  • Refill missing cases, wipes and bottles of cleaners at the reception
  • Make a monthly inventory of old orders in the main cabinet
  • Help opticians with the mail
  • Ensure the supply of necessary stationery: Eye exam file, business card, etc.
  • Ensure the supply of sanitary products: toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, hand soap, dish soap, etc.
  • Ensure the supply of disinfection products
  • Supply products: eye drops, cleaning wipes, masks, VC maintenance solution, etc.

Skills Profiles

Required Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in written and verbal French
  • Computer skills

Education and Experience:

  • Secondary school diploma
  • College diploma in visual orthotics
  • Member of the Ordre des opticiens et opticiennes du Québec
  • Experience in customer service (an asset)
