EYE EXAM
The eye exam lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. First, you’ll be greeted by an assistant optometrist, who will perform preparatory tests using state-of-the-art equipment. The tests assess the overall health of your eyes (and retina) and detect signs of eye disease.
Once the tests have been completed, the optometrist will evaluate the results and let you know if a problem has been detected. Based on the results, the optometrist will be able to give you advice or recommendations.
The optometrist will continue to evaluate your vision through various manual and mechanical tests. If necessary, he or she will provide you with a prescription for corrective lenses.
Your child’s first eye exam should be performed before he or she starts school, at around age 4, to ensure the best possible academic success. However, if you notice that your child has a squinty eye, or seems to be having difficulty seeing nearby objects, it’s a good idea to have his or her vision evaluated as soon as possible.
